This is it… my final blog post before Christmas!

December always keeps me on my toes, filled with the excitement of the festive season, the joy of giving, and the constant reminders of why our work matters. It’s a month I love, not just for the celebrations and time spent with friends and family, but for the incredible opportunities it brings to make a real difference in the lives of children and young people across the UK.
One highlight I’m thrilled to share is that ‘The One and Only’ Chesney Hawkes will be opening the Dr Michael Josephson MBE Farewell Ball on 14th March at the Manchester Deansgate Hotel. This iconic singer and songwriter will kick off the evening with an unforgettable performance, setting the tone for a night of celebration, connection, and, most importantly, fundraising for some incredible causes.
Speaking of fundraising, the Silent Auction for the Farewell Ball is officially live! Within days of launching, it was already at over £41k, but there’s still plenty of time to get involved, even if you don’t have a ticket for the Ball! From a Fiat Grande Panda Hybrid to luxurious villas in Puglia, exclusive experiences like flying a Spitfire, champagne escapes, and tours of Red Bull Racing HQ, there’s something for everyone. Every bid makes a real difference and helps us support children and young people who need it most. Go to www.mjcharityball.com/auction to bid now!
December also reminds me of the real impact our supporters create. Just recently, I joined Variety, the Children’s Charity, to help over 1,000 children enjoy a magical Christmas day out at Gulliver’s World. With rides, a live pantomime, a visit with Father Christmas, gifts to take home, and even a meet-and-greet with Elf on the Shelf at our North Pole Bash, it was an unforgettable day. The joy on their faces shows exactly why the funds raised through the MJ Charity Balls are so vital.
I also had the privilege of visiting Contact Hostel in Whalley Range, which provides a safe haven for homeless young women across Greater Manchester. Thanks to £31,560 raised at the MJ Ball ‘22, the hostel has recently undergone renovations that will make a lasting difference for its residents. During the visit, we were also able to donate cosmetics and make-up, sometimes the small things that can have a big impact on confidence and self-worth.
This December, as always, I’m reminded of how fortunate I am to witness the incredible generosity of our supporters, and how every event, every auction, and every donation truly changes lives. Here’s to celebrating the season and continuing to make a difference together.
