Hello Summer: May Reflections & Exciting Times Ahead

It’s officially here… Summer! And I’m looking forward to a very productive and rewarding month ahead. Longer days, brighter evenings, and spending time with the people who inspire me – what more could I ask for?
As some of you will have seen, news of the Michael Josephson MBE Farewell Ball is out there… but all we’re revealing for now is that it will take place in 2026. Watch this space – we’ve got some exciting announcements to come!
May has also been another incredible month of giving, and I’m incredibly proud of the impact we’re making together.
A total of £500,000 from #MJBall24 funds has gone to Variety, the Children’s Charity, where I have the honour of serving as Chief Barker and Chairman of Patrons. Variety provides practical, life-changing support to children and young people across the UK – from bespoke disability equipment to adapted Sunshine coaches for SEND pupils, and unforgettable days out for children living in poverty. This is a cause close to my heart, and I’m so thankful to everyone who supported the Ball. This is where your generosity goes.
We’ve also donated £5,000 to The Jolly Josh Centre, a haven of safety and support for young people with complex medical needs. Through hydrotherapy, play, and social sessions, they help families thrive – and their work is truly life-changing.
I’m also thrilled that £15,000 has gone to Didsbury Pride, a free, inclusive celebration founded in memory of Lizzie Lowe and in response to rising homophobia. From 600 people in year one to over 6,000 expected this year, it’s a powerful reminder that love always wins.
We’re also supporting the Home Community Café in Didsbury with a £2,500 donation. This local gem offers vital services and connection through a warm, inclusive café, volunteer programme, and community space.
Finally, £5,000 has been donated to Cure Usher Syndrome for #DonationWednesday – helping fund research and support for those living with this rare condition that affects both hearing and vision. Huge thanks to Laura Norton and Mark Jordon for bringing the charity to my attention.
As ever, none of this would be possible without the support of everyone who backs the Ball. Thank you for continuing to believe in what we do. Here’s to a summer filled with purpose, positivity, and progress.
